Timothy Paul Matz, 70, of Alvin, Texas passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2023. Tim was born March 15, 1953 in Savanna, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his son, Nicholas Matz; parents, Leonard P. and Ruby Matz; and brothers, Leonard L. Matz and Peter Matz.

Tim is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Ellen Kollmorgen Matz; brothers, Dennis Matz and Eric Matz; along with numerous other relatives and friends.

He graduated from Rockford East High School and attended Eastern New Mexico University and Texas Tech University. He received a degree in music education and spent many years as a saxophonist in various bands (jazz, blues, and rock and roll) in Colorado, Idaho, New Mexico, and Texas.

Tim also worked as an echocardiogram technician and respiratory therapist. He retired from NASA after working on various medical research projects including testing US astronauts and Russian cosmonauts returning from the International Space Station. He was an avid animal lover and adored his many dogs in addition to being a creative composer and a wonderful cook.

A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Scott Funeral Home with visitation prior to the service from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to ASPCA, Houston Food Bank , or Houston Toys for Tots
