On Saturday, January 20, 2024, Thelma Ray Hooks, a cherished and devoted wife, mother and grandmother gracefully navigated the journey of life and passed away peacefully  surrounded by family. She leaves behind a legacy of love, wisdom and faithfulness to God. Her nurturing spirit touched the hearts of all who were blessed enough to know her. May her memory and devotion be a source of comfort and inspiration to those she leaves behind.

Thelma is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Syble Prewitt; sister, Syble Loyce Prewitt. She is survived by her steadfast husband, John "J.D." Hooks; children, Michael Hooks, Katherine Vandermolen (Tom), Jodye Royal, Jeffrey Hooks (LeeAnn), Steven Hooks (Judith); 10 grandchildren, Jessica Cushway, Kaye Raska, Jared Hooks, Mason Hooks, Dylan Hooks, Wyatt Hooks, Amber Lee Royal, Michaela Hooks, Sophia Hooks and Emily Hooks; 6 great grandchildren, Dakotah Layman, Tristan Cushway, Caden Breaux, Steele Hooks, John Hooks and Joe Lynn.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Thursday, January 25, 2024 at Scott Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, January 26, 2024 at Calvary Baptist Church (5307 Ladonia Street Arcola, Texas 77583) with interment to follow at Confederate Cemetery in Alvin.
