Shirlie Ann Chadwick, 87, of Alvin, Texas, died peacefully on December 28, 2023, in the comfort of her home. Shirlie was born on August 27, 1936, in Houston, Texas and was a resident of Alvin for the last 11 years. Even though she was a life-long Texan having resided also in Anahuac, Goose Creek, Spring, Conroe and Deer Park, Texas, she mostly enjoyed the many years she lived in Dover, Arkansas with the love of her life, James "DJ" Chadwick, and their grandson, Chris Ramirez.

Shirlie was born to Rmendy McMurry and Thomas Causey. She was the youngest of three children and the only girl. She had fiery red hair from her Scottish/Irish heritage but she was most proud of her Choctaw Indian ancestry on her mother's side.

Growing up, Shirlie made fond memories with her loving mother. The two women had a special bond, and other than a brief stint after Sharlie's first marriage, Shirlie lived with and cared for her mother most of her life. She was always proud of this and would say even today how much she loved and missed her mother.

Shirlie's upbringing was rooted in a strong faith in God and Jesus Christ, and she was a lifetime follower of the Church of Christ. Her family was of meager means, which is how she developed a unique distaste for eating chicken. Having had too many home-raised chickens for dinner as a girl, Shirlie refused to eat the bird as an adult. One of her favorite childhood memories was when her father splurged and took the family to the Rice Hotel in downtown Houston for a celebratory dinner after her brother came home from the war. Shirlie wore her Sunday best and ordered an ice cream sundae that day.

As a woman, Shirlie was known as being the hostess with the most-ess. She could throw a party like no other and was always the first to volunteer to organize church functions. Family holidays were legendary in their extravagance with more food than anyone could eat, matching place settings, wall-to-wall holiday décor, and in some cases, singing.

No one shined under Shirlie's love and adoration more than her grandchildren. Shirlie showered them with vacations, clothes, piles of gifts, and an unconditional love they will never forget. To them, Shirlie was known as Mema, and her heart and home were always open to them no matter what.

Shirlie was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle James Chadwick, her parents, Rmendy and Thomas Causey, her brothers, Tommy and Ervin Causey, and her son, Randy Nicholson.

Shirlie is survived by her daughter, Cherry Sanford and wife Starla; her son, Gary Nicholson; and her six grandchildren, Heather Nicholson Betancourth, and husband Robert; Steven Ramirez, and wife Ferrin; Chris Ramirez, and wife Brenda; Dustin Nicholson, Nathan Nicholson, and Thomas Nicholson.
