Shirley Ober Landrum, 87, was called home to her Heavenly Father, October 18, 2021 at her home in Garden Ridge, Texas. Her final days were spent surrounded in love by her family.

The youngest of five children, Shirley Marie was born November 17, 1933, in Alvin Texas to Floyd and Faye Powell. It was in her hometown of Alvin she met the love of her life, Alfred Louis (Freddie) Ober. They married in 1953 and went on to have four children: Susan, Tad, Nancy and James Ober.

In the mid 70's, the couple moved to a ranch in the small West Texas town, Kent, where they made memories as big and as beautiful as the mountains they were surrounded by. There, Shirley was known to work cattle alongside Freddie, drove a pickup truck and wore spurs like she was born to do it. She made and served bountiful meals for the ranch hands, all the while making them laugh and feel welcome after a long cattle drive. Later in life the couple moved to Bangs, Texas where they continued to ranch and make memories until Freddie's passing.

Anyone who knew Shirley was touched by her fierce love for her family, her sass and sense of humor and her wicked, throaty laugh. She was renowned for her green thumb, pecan pie and chocolate chip cookies. She loved music and dancing, traveling, adventures to the mountains, hunting for arrowheads and family trips to the beach where she could spend hours collecting shells along the shore. Above all, she loved the Lord and worshiped and served at Methodist churches wherever she called home.

Her most precious gift–her heart and joy–was her family. And her grands, as she called her grandchildren, were those she loved most. Time spent at grandma's house meant baking aforementioned cookies, swimming in the tank, riding horses, catching horny toads, being chased by her crazy pet goose, watching On Golden Pond, afternoon crafts and puzzles, competitive matches of Uno, Rummikub or Gin Rummy, spontaneous renditions of I Love You A Bushel and a Peck and lots and lots of love.

Loved ones who welcomed her Home with open arms are first husband Alfred Louis (Freddie) Ober, second husband Gene Landrum, beloved son Tad Ober, brothers Willis Powell, Floyd Powell Jr., Roy Lee Powell, Fay Powell and her parents Faye Marie Powell and Floyd Powell.

Loved ones who will miss Shirley until they are reunited again are daughters Susan Cowart (Alan) and Nancy Foyt (Tony), son James Ober (Tammy), grandchildren, Jennifer Watson,  Megan Van Dusen (Darin), Steven Watson (Amber), Christopher Cowart, Russell Cowart (Lisa), Tonia Poe (Monte), Casie Foyt, Anthony Foyt (Casey), Cody, Matthew, Sarah and Tad Ober,  Nick Strawhun, and great-grandchildren, Ella, Sam, Nate, Max and Serena Van Dusen, Olivia, Charlotte and Levi Watson, Dillon Cowart, Braydon and Cameron Cowart, Isabella, Claire, Monte Joseph, Sofia and Oliver Poe, Blake Straten and Amelia Hamm,  A.J., Lockey James, Waylon, Mills and Dixie Foyt, and great-great-grandchildren Serenity Gonzalez and Miguel Chandler, as well as many cherished nieces, nephews and friends.

Services will be held Saturday, October 23 at 11am at First United Methodist Church of Alvin, Texas with a luncheon immediately after held in the Fellowship Hall. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery in Pearland, Texas.
