Selma Margaret Cavanaugh, age 86 of Alvin, Texas passed into the presence of the Lord, Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at Kozy Korner living facility in Alvin, Texas. Selma was born July 23, 1936 in Mishawaka, Indiana and was a resident of Alvin since 1974 and attended Manvel Bible Chapel. She was a homemaker and was dedicated to raising her family. Selma is preceded in death by her parents, Walter S. and Edith Nelson; sister, Joyce Selby; brothers, Maynard Nelson and Walt Nelson.

Selma is survived by her husband of 67 years, Joseph Rex Cavanaugh Jr.; daughter, Cheryl Weaver and husband Sherman; sons, David Cavanaugh and wife Jeanette, Kevin Cavanaugh and wife Olga; brother, Woody Nelson and wife Annice; grandchildren, Taylor George, Jenna Walls, Scout Weaver, Christy St. John, Fawn Cavanaugh, Cody Cavanaugh, Alyssa Cavanaugh, Janel Anderson, Christopher Mercado and Julia Mercado; along with numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

She was a very talented piano player with a heart for others. She contributed her gift on many Sundays as well as volunteering with her sister Joyce to care for the elderly, playing piano and singing with those in care.

Throughout her life she was a beloved homemaker and enjoyed writing poems in her free time. Many of her poems were lighthearted and funny, some were serious, but most of them were about her Savior. She dedicated her life to Christ at a young age at a Bible Camp in Indiana and served Him all her life, including countless missionary trips to Honduras, together with her husband Rex, where many lifelong friendships were established.

She always had a passion for the beach and being on the water, collecting seashells and lighthouses to decorate their home. Other hobbies of Selma's included roller skating, cake decorating, flower arranging, and traveling around the country on road trips with her family in their camper trailer ("glamping", or "glam camping" as we called it).

A small graveside service will be held at 12:30 PM Wednesday, August 31, 2022 (12:00 arrival time is requested)  at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive Houston, Texas 77038.

A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, September 10 ^th at Manvel Bible Chapel, 4230 FM 1128, Pearland, Texas  77584
