Scott Lee McNutt passed from this life on Monday, May 9, 2022 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 62. He was preceded in death by both of his parents.

Scott was born on Friday, September 18, 1959 at 7:30 PM, kickoff time in Overton, Texas to Iris McNutt, the wife of Kenneth McNutt, a high school football coach. This was the one and only kickoff his father ever missed.

He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Theresa Swindell McNutt of Dickinson; his beautiful daughters Shae McNutt of Denver, Colorado and Sara McNutt of Nashville, Tennessee; stepsons Bryan Parson and wife Roxanne of Dickinson, Texas, and Blake Parson and wife Cassie of San Antonio, Texas; sisters Kim McNutt Moreland and husband David of San Antonio, and Gay McNutt of Commerce, Texas; he was known as PopPop to Connor, Bethany, Mia, and Cade; nieces Brooke Espinoza, Kristen Garcia, Shelby Moreland, and Whitney Crider; nephew Nathan Moreland; and two heartbroken little dogs, Jack and Sugar.

Scott's family moved to Alvin, Tx in 1966 when he was six years old, and he and his sisters attended schools in Alvin ISD where his father coached football. A lifelong sports fan and an outstanding all-around high school athlete, Scott ran track, played baseball, and served as the quarterback for the Alvin Yellowjackets, and was named to the 1970s All-Decades team. Local newspapers in the mid- to late-70s were full of references to his athletic prowess on the field. Scott dreamed of playing football at the college level, but injuries unfortunately sidelined him. Instead, Scott and his younger sister coached a travel softball team called the Alvin Silver Streaks. He loved coaching kids, just like his father had done, and talked about his coaching days throughout the rest of his life.

After high school, Scott enrolled at Texas A&M but to hear him tell it, he'd learned everything he needed to know after just one semester, so he left. He remained a passionate and life-long A&M sports fan, and vigorously debated the intelligence of anyone who rooted for any other team except his Aggies. Scott inherited his story-telling ability from his father as well, and always had a good one on the tip of his tongue for anyone who stood still for more than a couple of minutes.

Scott and Theresa did a good bit of traveling together, and several years ago they enjoyed a trip with other family members to Canada. He also made several visits to his daughters in Colorado and Tennessee, and to watch his sister Gay coach softball.  She credits Scott's support for the athletic skills that earned her coaching positions at various Texas colleges.

A dyed-in-the-wool Texan, Scott had a lifelong dream of living in the Hill Country, and he and Theresa were able to fulfill that dream in 2019.  During their short time there, they built Scott's dream home and enjoyed many day trips to shop for items for their house or just to see the bluebonnets.  One of his favorite things to do was to watch the deer come out in the evenings on the back of their property.

To the physicians, nurses, and other medical staff at the Trauma Care ICU of University Hospital in San Antonio, Scott's family would like to extend their most sincere gratitude. The honesty, dedication, and compassion the family experienced during Scott's stay went above and beyond all expectations.

A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM, Saturday June 4, 2022 at Scott Funeral Home with services beginning at 6:00 PM.
