Ronald "Ron" Arthur Close, a 40-year resident of Alvin, passed into the presence of his Lord at the age of 81 on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at 2:05 a.m. in Webster, Texas.

Ron was born on July 7, 1941 in Salem, Ohio to Harold A. Close and Ruth Ludlam Close. Ron grew up in Salem and attended Salem High School where he first became interested in automobiles and mechanics. After graduation, Ron began his career as an apprentice at Bliss (Ohio). Over time, Ron's work led him to the prestigious General Motors Plant (Ohio).

In 1980, Ron moved his family to Alvin, where he found his niche in the oil and gas industry. His skills eventually landed him at Mustang Industrial/CAT Equipment, where he worked as a master mechanic for 15 years. After that, Ron worked for Crown Lift Trucks, and in 2008 after 11 years of service, he retired.

On November 24, 1979, Ron married the love of his life, Janice Darlene Rogan. He was devoted to Janice for over 43 years. Ron was a dedicated father to six daughters, Amy Lloyd (Jair), Cynthia Carrillo (Albert), Jane Shoemaker (Patrick), Terri Rogan, Julie Eick (Kurt), Brianna Patton (Chase), and four sons, Donald Rogan (Jeri), Timothy Rogan (Deb), Mark Rogan and Thomas Arthur Close. He was "Pap" to 25 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren and endeared by all his relatives. Throughout his lifetime and wherever he went, Ron established many wonderful friendships.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Harold Arthur Close and Ruth Ludlam Close, son, Thomas Arthur Close, and daughter, Terri Lynn Rogan.

Ron loved NASCAR, Indy racing, and classic cars. One of the highlights of his life was being an official during The Grand Prix race in Houston. He loved being with family -- never turning down an opportunity to attend livestock shows, swim meets, holiday family gatherings, and barbeques. Family and friends will always remember him as a happy, loving, and caring person, who spent his lifetime committed to his family.

Ron was a devout Christian and a lifelong member of the Nazarene Church and worshipped at the Breath of Life Community Church, Alvin.

Condolences will be received at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life honoring Ron at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 24, 2022 at the Breath of Life Community Church, 1611 W. South Street, Alvin, Texas 77511. Pastor Jay Williams will be officiating the service.
