Richard (Dick) "Pawpaw" Tracy Schott, long-time Alvin resident, passed away peacefully at his home Sunday, August 10, 2025. He was born to Norman W, and Shirley (Nee: Tracy), November 11, 1940, in Wausau, Wisconsin. Pawpaw had an adventurous spirit, and didn't care much for snow. These two qualities would lead him on a world tour and finally, to Texas.

Pawpaw proudly served our country in the United States Navy for eight years, from 1960-68, where he was stationed in Norfolk Virginia, serving as a diesel mechanic, working on small boats and submarines, achieving the rank of Engineman 1st Class (EN1). True to his nature, Pawpaw's service sent him to many warm and exotic locations, including Hawaii.

After his service, Pawpaw continued his tour of the world's warmest locations with Ardco Industries, where he worked maintenance on seismic machines and drilling equipment. Many times, he brought home trinkets and coins to his family from places such as Kazakhstan, Libya, Rome, and the Middle East.

Pawpaw married Margie Marie (Nee: Mitchell) December 28, 1968, in Lafayette, Louisiana. With his career keeping him on the move, the family followed. His son Jack was born in Louisiana, Daughter Amanda in Mississippi, and Ester in Louisiana. Then, in 1977 his career brought the whole family to Texas. They purchased their forever home on W. Willis St in Alvin, in 1992. Pawpaw and Mamaw built an adventurous life and family, until she passed in October, 2003.

To his friends and colleagues, he was 'Dick'; The man called upon from all over the world, because he got things done right the first time. To his family, he was simply 'Pawpaw'; The strongest man alive. One story passed on through the years gives testimony to this reputation; On a hot Texas summer day, Laying on concrete, working under his truck, his son tried to warn him about the ants crawling on him. Pawpaw's famous reply? "Meh! They don't eat much." Pawpaw was an incredible person, friend, father, and grandfather. We know they didn't break the mold when they made him, he did.

Pawpaw is survived by his sister Sheila Koppa and brother Mike. His children Jack (Lisa), Amanda Hankemer (Michael), and Ester Tuberville. His grandchildren Travis Dyson, Zachary Schott, Connor Schott, Jennifer Schott, Kelli Dyson, Sasha Schott, Bryndon Schott, and two step-grandchildren; Crystal Breaux and Niccole Tacco, as well as coleagues and friends, Not the least of which includes his loving cat, 'Pretty Girl'.

Pawpaw was proceeded in death by his parents Norman and Shirley, his Sister Audrey Ninabuck, his wife Margie, his step-daughter Lorrie Breaux, and step-son Daniel Breaux.

A celebration of life will be held at a date to be determined; most likely a warm date.
