Richard Lyndsay Mavus, age 82 of Spring, Texas passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2023, in Alvin, Texas. Richard was born October 25, 1940, in Hackensack, New Jersey and was a longtime resident of Spring. He worked as an electrician, starting his career with IBEW Local 164 in New Jersey.  When he moved to Texas, he continued with IBEW Local 716.  He finished his career with Britt/Rice Electric out of College Station Texas.

Richard was a long time Lutheran and was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Spring. He loved working as an usher and greeter at the churches that he was a member of over the past 45 years in Texas, along with the Lutheran Church in Paramus, New Jersey.  He spent a lot of time volunteering at the churches and had the "gift of gab" that he used so well to greet new members and to show them around the church!  Richard also spent time at the church helping out with meals for specific gatherings and mentoring other members of the church.

Richard was very busy during his free time. He spent countless hours helping people with electrical issues, and often gave them the "family discount" which was basically free, except feed me!! He spent his whole life in love with trains, and spent a lot of his spare time building, fixing and setting up his train board so everyone could see it at Christmas time under the Christmas tree. He was also an avid reader and spent many hours reading his Bible and other books related to religion.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Norma Mavus and his only sibling, his sister, Helen Pitner.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Karen Mavus; son, Brian Mavus and wife Irma; daughter, Kim Bigham and husband Chuck; grandchildren, Kira Bigham, Dusty Gonzales, Dominic Gonzales, Demetrio Gonzales, Delores Veal, Darlene Sandoval and Lyndsay Strain; 18 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; along with numerous extended family and friends.

A Memorial Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM Saturday, July 1, 2023, at Scott Funeral Home with a Memorial Service beginning at 11:00 AM.
