Joseph Rex Cavanaugh Jr., age 89 of Alvin, Texas passed into the presence of the Lord, Thursday, May 29, 2025. Rex was born March 21, 1936 in Gary, Indiana and was a resident of Alvin since 1974 and attended Manvel Bible Chapel. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy as an aircraft mechanic and continued in that field for multiple commercial airline companies. Rex is preceded in death by his wife, Selma Cavanaugh; parents, Joseph and Mary Cavanaugh Sr.; brothers, Raymond, Tommy, Bailey, and Glen; sisters, Regina and Jackie.

Rex is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Weaver and husband Sherman; sons, David Cavanaugh and wife Jeanette, Kevin Cavanaugh and wife Olga; sisters, Martha Calkin and Kathy Bienek; brother, Doug Cavanaugh; grandchildren, Taylor George, Dr. Jenna Walls, Scout Weaver, Christy St. John, Fawn Marchante, Cody Cavanaugh, Alyssa Cavanaugh, Janel Anderson, Christopher Mercado and Julia Mercado; along with numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

A small graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, June 9, 2025 (10:15 AM arrival time is requested) at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive Houston, Texas 77038.

A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held at a future date at Manvel Bible Chapel, 4230 FM 1128, Pearland, Texas 77584
