Rafael Aguilar, lovingly known to many as Ralph or Coach Ralph, of Manvel, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 25, 2026, surrounded by the family he loved so deeply. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, friendship, and an unwavering passion for the game of baseball.

From an early age, Rafael's gift for baseball was undeniable. As a standout player at Madison High School, he earned numerous accolades, including All-District and All-City honors. If you were fortunate enough to sit on his back porch, chances are you heard all about those accomplishments. With a proud smile, he would say, "All District, All City—I have the paper to show you," before pulling out treasured newspaper clippings dating back to 1978 and sharing a baseball lesson that somehow always turned into a life lesson.

His talent earned him a full scholarship to Blinn Junior College, where he continued to excel on the baseball field. After two years at Blinn, Rafael pursued his dream of professional baseball, playing in the Mexican League. It was there, in Chihuahua, Mexico, that he met the love of his life, Maria. After one of his games, he asked her to dinner and then invited her to travel with him to his next baseball series. Their love story blossomed quickly, and they were married on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1985.

Later that same year, they welcomed their daughter, Jessica. Together, the young family traveled throughout Mexico as Rafael continued his professional baseball career. Although baseball had always been his first love, becoming a father gave him a new purpose. Realizing his true calling was raising his family, Rafael retired from professional baseball and moved his family to Manvel, Texas, in 1987. Crestview Drive quickly became home, and over the years he built lifelong friendships with neighbors who became like family.

Rafael was the proud owner of J&R Paint Contractors, where he poured the same dedication and work ethic into his business that he had always given to baseball. But his greatest impact came as a coach. He coached his son, Alfonso, from the age of five through high school, teaching not only the fundamentals of the game but also discipline, respect, and perseverance.

In 2008, Rafael, alongside his dear friend and coaching partner Fred Hooker, made Alvin Little League history by leading the league's only Junior League Baseball team to reach the Junior League World Series in Taylor, Michigan. It was one of the proudest moments of his coaching career.

To Rafael, every player he coached became one of "his boys." Long after his coaching days ended, he continued serving the game as an umpire with Alvin Little League. Even while standing behind home plate calling balls and strikes, he couldn't resist offering young hitters advice on bunting, swinging, or finding confidence at the plate. His love for baseball never faded, and his influence reached generations of young athletes.

Above all else, Rafael was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Maria Aguilar; his daughter, Jessica Aguilar, and her husband, Cesar; his son, Alfonso Aguilar, and his partner, Samantha; and his treasured grandsons, Juan and Jason, who were truly the light of his life.

While Rafael loved his children beyond measure, there was something especially magical about the bond he shared with his grandsons. Being "Pawpaw" was his greatest joy. Whether cheering them on, teaching them something new, or simply spending time together, they brought him endless pride and happiness.

Rafael never met a stranger. Everyone who crossed his path was welcomed with kindness, laughter, and usually a plate of food. He believed no one should ever leave his home with an empty stomach or an empty heart. He lived by a simple but powerful motto: "Treat others the way you want to be treated." It was a philosophy he practiced every single day.

Rafael's life was one of love, generosity, hard work, and unwavering dedication to family and community. His stories, laughter, wisdom, and love for baseball will live on through everyone whose life he touched.

Though his voice is now silent, the lessons he taught, the lives he shaped, and the love he shared will continue to echo for generations.
