Oscar Henry Voigt Jr., age 83 of Alvin, Texas, passed away at his home on the morning of Monday, May 20, 2024, winning a brief battle against visceral angiosarcoma by gaining the ultimate victory. Born December 12, 1940 in Galveston, Texas, Oscar was a 50-year resident of Alvin. He is preceded in death by his parents, Emma and Oscar Voigt, Sr., and nephew, Robert Voigt, Jr.

After graduating from Brazosport High School in 1959, Oscar proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. In 1964, he renewed his acquaintance with Mary Glover, when they happened to meet up at church. They fell in love and got married in June of 1966, spending almost 58 years living out their vows to one another. He was a devoted dad to Bridget and Angela, an admired father-in-law, and the proud Papa of seven grandchildren and one goddaughter, all of whom absolutely adored him. He loved family, was reliable, patient, generous, and fun.

Oscar had a life-long career as an appliance serviceman and enjoyed being his own boss. He treated his customers with the attention, kindness and generosity that became his hallmark and fueled the word-of-mouth advertising that promoted his success. He served his community with consideration, attention to detail, and true service. Oscar had a strong Catholic faith and believed that helping people was an essential part of right living.

Oscar was not the sedentary type. ("We need to get something done around here!") He took pride in his yardwork and enjoyed woodworking, visiting with his neighbors, and taking on projects with or creating on-the-spot games for his grandkids. They always wondered what kind of elaborate gift-giving game he would invent to make memories during Christmas. He loved to bowl and spent many Thursday afternoons playing "42" with his teammates after league play. An occasional round of golf found him diligently hunting for his ball, usually in the rough. He was a proud Dallas Cowboys fan with fall Sundays finding him in his recliner, eagerly following their success (or, sometimes to his frustration, a lack of it).

Oscar is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Voigt; daughter and son-in-law, Bridget and Lawrence Tacquard and their sons, Riley, Colby, Lane and Aaron Tacquard; daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Billy Van Beveren and their children, Allison, Noah and Leah Van Beveren; goddaughter Caitlin Driggers and husband Parker; brother Robert Voigt and wife Sandra; and numerous other family members and friends. Pall bearers include his five grandsons and his brother. Honorary pallbearers include his buddies, David Flores and Pruett Hugg.

Oscar was our strength, a calming force, our source of advice and loving action. We will remember his love as his finest gift, a legacy forever engraved on our hearts. He was a good, good man – one of a kind – he will be dearly missed.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday, May 30, 2024, at Scott Funeral Home with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Friday, May 31, 2024 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church (10114 Hwy. 6, Hitchcock, TX. 77563) with interment to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Dickinson, Texas.
