Octavio L. Gonzales, age 88 of Alvin, Texas passed away December 24, 2024, with his family by his side. Octavio was born in Alamo, Texas and was a proud resident of Alvin, Texas for 24 years. He was a loving father of 10 children.

Octavio was a longshoreman and owned several business' including three restaurants and was owner of the well-known 'Gonzales Grocery" store in the community of East End in Houston.

Octavio was married to his loving wife Lorina Gonzales for 55 years until her passing in 2009. He has been married to Maria Gonzales for 14 delightful years.

Octavio was a proud member of the National Guard of the United States and the Army National Guard of Texas where he learned to box. He boxed for the 36th Infantry Division out of Plainview, Texas where he was nicknamed "Powerful Right". He was a Golden Gloves Boxing champion for 3 years in 1950, 51, and 52. In his amateur boxing career he won 25 out of 28 matches (24 by knockouts) and 2 losses by decision and 1 by knockout. His love for boxing remained throughout his life.

He will be dearly missed by family and friends. He had a great sense of humor. He took great pride in his children. He had a strong work ethic and a very strong faith in Jesus.

He is survived by his wife, Maria, his sons, daughters, their spouses: Louis, Joe and Irma, Gloria and Ron, Gracie, Rachel and Bill, Angie, Rosie, Sylvia and Danny; Armando, and grandchildren: Cynthia, Belinda, Micheal, Lisa, Jeanette, Gabriel, Mathew, Jessica, Travis, Jason and Jared and numerous grandchildren and even seven great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Monday, December 30, 2024, from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Scott Funeral Home with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at 10:30 A.M., at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with interment to follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Dickinson, Texas.
