Leandro "Indio" Martinez, age 84 of Alvin, Texas, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2026 peacefully surrounded by the love of his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and cherished great-grandfather whose wisdom, strength, and laughter touched countless lives. While many knew him as Leandro, countless family members, friends, athletes, and neighbors knew him simply as "Indio," a name spoken with affection, respect, and admiration.

Leandro was born July 21, 1941 in Mathis, Texas. In Leandro's life he worked for the Yellow Jacket Construction, Troy Industries, and Reef Industries and visited many different states until calling Alvin, Texas home. Leandro also cherished the opportunity to travel and create lasting memories with his beloved wife to Graceland, Tennessee. Together, they enjoyed visiting dear friends in Pennsylvania and making trips to Maryland to spend time with his Uncle Mike and Aunt Verna. These travels brought him great joy and reflected the importance he placed on maintaining close relationships with family and friends throughout his life.

Leandro had a lifelong passion for baseball and dedicated much of his time to coaching and mentoring young athletes. He proudly coached Alvin Little League baseball and later trained and guided high school athletes, teaching them the values of hard work, perseverance, teamwork, and dedication. His influence extended far beyond the field, leaving a lasting impact on the many young people whose lives he touched. Whether coaching, mentoring, or spending time with loved ones, Leandro's greatest joy came from sharing his knowledge and investing in the lives of others.

Leandro loved playing pool, fishing, sharing stories, and teaching life lessons. He believed in hard work, perseverance, and self-reliance, values he passed on to every generation of his family. His home was a place of refuge, comfort, and love, and his influence will continue to be felt by all who knew him.

Leandro is preceded in death by his parents Juan and Concepcion Martinez; daughter Monica Martinez; brothers Juan Martinez Jr, and Isabel Martinez; sisters Tomasa De la Cruz, Petra Lozano and Elvira Gonzalez, and grandson Jacob Garibay.

Leandro is survived by his wife Guadalupe Lucy Martinez; children Marcos Martinez, Mauricio Martinez (Mary Ann), Michael Martinez (Anissa), Mary Ellen Murphree (Shannon), Mario Martinez (Sandi), Melissa Martinez, Mickey Martinez (Annette), and Matthew Martinez; sister Virginia Reyes-Martinez; 19 grandchildren Monica, Marcos Jr, Israel, Roxanne, Malarie, Jared, Michael, Kayla, Kai, Joseph, Simon, Stefan, Tito, Justin, John, Alexis, Mickey, Samantha, and Gael. 17 great-grandchildren Aiden, Austin, Malayna, Jaiden, Brielle, Andrew, Benjamin, Olivia, Kamilla, Dario, Keliah, Cole, Tito IV, Samara, Gabriella, Legacy, Journey, and a host of extended family and friends who will continue to honor his memory and legacy.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, July 10, 2026, at Scott Funeral Home from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Scott Funeral Home starting at 10:00 AM. Interment to take place at Oak Park Cemetery following the services.
