Larry Phillip "Rusty" Kennedy passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at the age of 79. Rusty was born November 11, 1944, in Jackson, Mississippi. He graduated from Galena Park High School in 1963 and went on to pursue what would be a successful lifelong career in accounting. Rusty was a longtime resident of Alvin and owned a Tax Consulting and Bookkeeping business in town for 50 plus years.  He loved the small hometown feel of Alvin and the many relationships he developed with his clients over the years, several who became lifelong friends. Rusty was a cherished patriarch who brought joy through his love for hosting BBQs and pool parties, creating lasting memories for family and friends. His love for family was immeasurable, reflected in every gathering he hosted with warmth and laughter.

Rusty enjoyed many things, including being on the water, fishing & boating, serving on the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo committee, but hunting was his passion! He hunted on several deer leases over the years, and eventually bought his long overdue retirement home in Fredericksburg, TX, better known as RKM Ranch. He was an excellent cook, and you could find him on his back porch firing up the grill with tongs in one hand and a tall cold drink in the other. Rusty also had a green thumb at heart and found solace in his garden. His dedication to nurturing life mirrored his nurturing spirit within the family. He was an Astros and football fan, along with his wife Mary, sharing thrilling moments and spirited cheers with those he held dear.  Another huge part of their lives was travel! There was always a new place to explore, and they crossed off many bucket list destinations along the way.

Over the last 9 months, Rusty fought a long relentless battle with bladder cancer. As he joins his beloved wife, who departed just four months ago, we find solace in the thought of their reunion in the embrace of the Lord.

Rusty is preceded in death by his wife, Mary; parents, Zelle and Clinton "CL" Kennedy; brother, Ted Kennedy; brothers-in-law Gordon Edwards and Conrad Carroll; nephew Ryan Edwards; and grandchild, Avery Gutierrez.

Rusty is survived by his sister, Pat Edwards-Carroll; sister-in-law, Diana Kennedy; daughters Kaleen Weatherly and husband Britt, Kimberly Weldon and husband Kim; stepdaughters Lisa Riggs and husband Bobby, Margret Perez and husband Oliver; grandchildren Brittany, Hannah, Krae, Kailey, Kennedy, Ashley, Desiree, Matthew, Adam, and Alec, as well as numerous great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Rusty leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a genuine zest for life that will forever be etched in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have shared in his warmth.  He was a very proud husband, father, uncle and most of all, Paw Paw.  May his soul rest in eternal peace.

After enduring such a difficult year, we would like to take this time to thank everyone for all the kind words, thoughts, and prayers expressed to our family.

A visitation will be held Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Scott Funeral Home with funeral services beginning at 7:00 PM.
