Joan Elizabeth Young, age 88 went to be with Jesus on February 26, 2025. Joan was born September 17, 1936, to Donald John Young and Ethel Young. She grew up in Fort Worth Texas. Joan graduated from North Texas University in 1958 and later received two master's degrees. One from Denton Women's College and one from The University of Houston. Joan taught in Sonora ISD and Ballinger ISD from 1958-1960, Irving ISD from 1960-1974 and Alvin ISD 1974-2004, retiring in 2004. Joan was a physical education teacher, golf and tennis coach. She was also a camp counselor and advisor for the YMCA in Fort Worth and a realtor in Fort Worth.  During Joan's career at Alvin ISD. She served as a student council sponsor, was on the CCC Communications Committee and the PDCC Communications Committee. Joan mentored numerous new Alvin ISD teachers that became lifelong friends. Joan later began a trophy business in Alvin Texas, Engraving and Etc., she served surrounding communities and school districts. Joan specialized in UIL awards and trophies. Of course, her favorite was always working with Alvin ISD and Its athletic department and staff. She loved what she did. Joan definitely had a servant's heart. She loved to volunteer! She often kept score at Alvin ISD softball games. Anything she could do to help with sports or academic achievement, she volunteered. She also volunteered for Alvin Manvel Area chamber of commerce where she was a member. Joan served as the golf chair for the golf committee for many years she also served on the banquet, business expo, ambassador, membership drive committees and served on the Board of Directors. Joan was often rewarded for her servant's heart. She was volunteer of the year for six consecutive years for the Chamber of Commerce and in 2009 received the Ambassador of the Year award as well. Joan was involved in the Alvin community in so many ways, she volunteered for the Alvin Convention and Visitors Bureau for ten years at all events put on by the bureau. She also volunteered for the Alvin Parks & Recreation Department at city wide events and on various community projects. Joan was a member and served as President of Soroptimist International of Alvin 2011-2013 and in 2014 she was awarded Women of Distinction, Joan was a member of Thelma Ley Anderson YMCA and served on the board, she was a member of Alvin Noon Lions club for 17 years and served on the board. She was a fan of all sports. Especially tennis, golf, and her Astros! She loved her fur baby Buddy, fancy cars, shopping, trips to the casino and eating out with friends.

Joan is survived by her chosen family Julie Siggers and husband Terry, Stephen Ansel and wife Michelle, Hunter and Mark Ansel, Stephanie Ansel and husband Mark, Morgan and Brittany Ansel, Mary Stimpson, Mary Jean Johnson and husband, Lee, Seth Johnson and wife Tara, Tiffany Johnson, Regan Peterson and husband Rodney, Nancy Gerjes and husband Carl, Ann Brotherton, Debbie Norwood and husband Jim, any so many other close, dearly loved friends that were part of her extended family.

Joan is proceeded in death by her parents three brothers and a sister.

A Memorial visitation will be held from 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Scott Funeral Home with a Memorial service beginning at 4:00 PM.
