Jimmy Lynn Cates (lovingly known as Smiley), age 76 of Alvin, Texas, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at UTMB Clear Lake Hospital. Jimmy was born June 14, 1948 in Hereford, Texas and was a longtime resident of Alvin. He attended New Hope Church in Alvin, worked as an electrician out of IBEW Local 527 in Texas City and proudly served his country in the United States Army. Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Laura Cates.

Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Diana Cates; daughter, Stacy Huffman and husband Jared; son, Ross Cates and wife Risa; brother, Ronald Cates and wife Annette; grandchildren, Caleb Huffman, Catelyn Huffman, Cameron Cates and Kellan Cates; brother-in-law Mike Smith and wife Deanna; along with numerous extended family and friends.

A memorial visitation will be held from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM Sunday, December 15, 2024 at Scott Funeral Home.
