James Roy Jones, age 84 of Rosharon, Texas passed away Friday August 2, 2024, at Memorial Hermann Southwest in Houston, Texas. James was born in Muleshoe, Texas on November 12, 1939 and had been a resident of Rosharon since 2006.

James was diligent in supporting his family, and started working as a grocery sacker at the age of 14 for Cashway Grocery of Muleshoe, Texas. He worked his way up to become meat market manager and continued there until 1978. During this time he joined the National Guard for 3 years to better serve his country. He moved his family to Amarillo, Texas, where he worked for Furr's Supermarket for 1 year. He then returned to Muleshoe where he purchased a business and named it James Roy's Meat Market. He was a well-known figure in Muleshoe, and served on the City Council for multiple terms. He owned the meat market until he started his career as a USDA meat inspector. This career change sparked several moves across Texas that included Dumas, Paris and Pearland.

James was a strong Christian and was devout in his faith. He focused on serving in every church he attended; from being a deacon, to yard work, meal preparation, ushering, and Sunday school classes, he always wanted to help and encourage others. He started attending Southview Baptist Church of Rosharon in 2011, where he expressed his passion in serving others in many roles.

James was a hard-working husband, and loved and cared for his wife, Theresa, for 65 years. He is preceded in death by his parents Roy and Winnie Jones; brother Joe Dan Jones; Sister Shirley Jones.  He is survived by wife, Theresa Jones; sister Judy Ondeck and husband Greg; daughter Jana and husband Richard; son James Todd Jones and wife Amy; grandchildren Amanda Waitschies and husband Colt; Jenny Gilbert and husband Davey; Taylor Brem and husband Connor; Megan Browning and husband Ryan; Madison Hedstrom and husband Brooks; and Kody Trees. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren; Titus and Abigail Gilbert, Remington and Kira Waitschies.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Friday, August 9, 2024 at Scott Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, August 10, 2024 at Southview Baptist Church in Rosharon with interment to follow at Oak Park Cemetery in Alvin.
