Long time Alvin resident, James "Jimmy" Abney, age 84, passed away peacefully at home Friday, January 14, 2022. Jimmy was born November 5, 1937, in Douglas, Georgia to Cecil and Grace Abney.

Jimmy Abney joined his wife, Jackie Abney in Heaven. After 62 years of marriage, they left this world just 3 days apart, standing true to their vows of till death due us part.

Everyone who knew Jimmy remembers his love of the outdoors. He was a competitive bass fisherman, hunter, and avid gardener. He loved to play the guitar and was a world class tinkerer; he took pride in the fact he could fix anything. He was a devoted family man who loved making Christmas a special time for his family. He retired from Monsanto after 35 years of service where he finished his career as a specialist in biological waste treatment in the Environmental Control Unit.

Jimmy is survived by his daughters Cindy deJongh and husband Stephen, Cathy Norre and husband Mike, Sandy Abney, sisters; Jeanne Bodine, Sandra Thiem, sister-in-law Doris Abney, brother-in-law Amon Ware Jr. and wife Jimmie, 5 grandchildren; Sarah, Patrick, Jacob, Adam, and Blake, 4 great-grandchildren; Anthony, Brooklyn, Adalyn, and Liam.

A joint graveside service will be held for Jimmy and wife Jackie Abney at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 17, 2022, at the Confederate Cemetery in Alvin, Texas.
