Hubert Eben Ekstrum was born in Frankfort, Kansas. When he was six years old his family moved to Galena Park, Texas where he grew up and graduated from High School. He attended Jacksonville College and was called to the ministry. He pastored several churches in Arkansas and East Texas including Antioch Baptist Church in Nashville, Arkansas, and Sylverino Baptist Church, Macedonia Baptist Church and Wamba Baptist Church in the Texarkana area.

In addition to being a pastor, he made numerous mission trips to Sri Lanka, Haiti, Aruba, Thailand and 19 trips to Brazil. In retirement he was active with Texas Baptist Men and Camp Builders. He helped build several churches and camp facilities around the country with extensive work at Lake Tomahawk Christian Retreat Center in Livingston, Texas.

His wife of over fifty years Lonita Ekstrum preceded him in death as did three of his children Lisa Goad, Ann Ekstrum, and Donald Ray Ekstrum. He is survived by two children Dave Ekstrum and Frances Jones, two grandchildren Amanda Pridgen and Ann Beeman, and three great-grandchildren Mona Beeman, Eben Beeman, Noah Pridgen, and many nieces and nephews.

A Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Nassau Bay Baptist Church (18131 Nassau Bay Drive Houston, Texas 77058) with Funeral Services to begin at 11:00 AM. A private family burial will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Houston, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Lake Tomahawk Christian Retreat Center.
