Helen Minette Newman of Alvin passed away at the age of 82 on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Clear Lake Regional Hospital in Webster, Texas. Helen was born August 15, 1939 in Oberlin, Louisiana to Irene Lillian (Starkey) Burnitt and Robert Burnitt. At the age of three months, after her mother's passing, she was adopted by Frank H. Starkey and Mary Irene (Waller) Starkey.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas "Tommy" Edward Newman and her birth and adoptive parents.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Karen Minette Farrell and husband Patrick; son, Kyle Robert Schacht; brother, Frank Starkey, Jr. and wife Betty; grandchildren Misty Barrett and husband Cillian, Sarah Kelly and husband Dwan, Jade Schacht, Sean Farrell and wife Allie; great grandchild Thora; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

A celebration of life is being planned and will be announced.
