Gladys Viola Schulze McKissick, 105, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at a memory care facility in Shenandoah, Texas. She was born in Karnes City, Texas, on September 17, 1917, to Charles and Ida Schulze. Gladys was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Alvin, Texas.

Gladys graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1935. She lived most of her adult life on Heights Road in Alvin after she was married to Winston Thomas McKissick on March 25, 1944, in the First Presbyterian Church. She fondly spoke of living in McGehee, Arkansas, where she and her husband ran the McGehee Motel during the 1960s and owned farmland.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers, and three sisters. She is survived by three sons, Thomas, Robert, and John (Lisa); two grandchildren, Matthew and Galina McKissick; a sister, Charlotte Koch; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

A visitation will be held at 1 pm at Scott Funeral Home in Alvin, Texas, on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, followed by a funeral service at 2 pm. Burial will follow at Confederate Cemetery in Alvin.
