George T. Smith, age 79 of Alvin, Texas, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2024 HCA Clear Lake Hospital.  George was born September 30, 1944 in Rabbit Town, Louisiana and was a longtime resident of Alvin. He worked in the oilfield for many years and attended the Cowboy Church of Alvin. George is preceded in death by his son, Richard D. Smith; parents, Eldridge and Lillie Smith; sisters, Loretta Perkins, Wanda Burnett and Evelyn Martin; brothers, Joe Henry Smith, Eldridge Ray Smith, Elvis D. Smith .

George is survived by his wife, Linda Smith; son Kenneth Smith; sister, Debbie Rainwater; grandchildren, Christian (Boy) Smith, Kristina (Tina) Smith and Brianna (BB) Smith; along with numerous extended family and friends.

George was born in Rabbit Town, Louisiana in a small wooden shack . The family was dirt poor and lived off the land. Hunting and Fishing were not for recreation they were a necessity to provide food for the family. George dropped out of school in 7th grade to get a job to help his family then in the early 60s, George came to Alvin, Texas to get one of those high paying oilfield jobs . He landed a position as a field hand at T&L Lease Service for .27 cents an hour. Within a few years of being in Alvin George met the love of his life, Linda Biles. They married in 1967 and had their sons in 1968 and 1969. George had a reputation back then as a hard drinker and liked to get into fights but that all changed once the kids arrived. He stopped drinking and smoking and focused on making a better life for his family. George worked his way through the ranks at T&L Lease and made it up to field superintendent. I can remember all of us being so proud of him , he had a company truck with a phone in it and carried a briefcase to work everyday after 23 years he took a position with Jay Hawkins and became vice president of Hawkins Lease Service . He retired after 27 years at Hawkins. All with just a 7th grade education. George always told us "I don't care what kind of a job you have even if its cleaning toilets, work hard. be one of the best at what you do, treat your coworkers with respect and God will take care of the rest". On the family side George was the ultimate family man. Growing up every weekend we were going fishing or hunting or to Louisiana to visit family. He always made time for his family and not just his wife and kids. We were always visiting brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins. Somehow, he and my mom made time for it all. George loved family and friends so much and always tried to help people. People will say George was a great Hunter, a great fisherman, a great worker. a great friend, a great husband, a great father and grandfather. All of which is true, He is by far the greatest man I have ever known.
