George Bruce
Edge
Jan 2, 1937 — Sep 24, 2026
George Bruce Edge, 89, born January 2, 1937, in Dickinson, Texas, passed away on September 24, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of memories, service to his country, and a story deeply rooted in Texas.
Born to James Wesley Edge and Martha Patton, George grew up in Dickinson and graduated from Dickinson High School on May 24, 1956.
George proudly served his country in the United States Navy, including service aboard the USS Wren (DD-568), a destroyer assigned to the U.S. Sixth Fleet. During the Cold War era, the Wren participated in naval operations in Cuban waters and the Mediterranean. George's Navy years were part of an extraordinary chapter in American history, and his ship and fellow sailors received recognition for their professionalism, pride, and exemplary conduct.
Following his military service, George built a career as a skilled air-conditioning technician and maintenance professional. A hardworking, resourceful man who knew his way around a toolbox, George spent his working years maintaining and repairing the things others depended upon. He eventually retired from Galena Park High School in Galena Park, Texas.
George shared many years of marriage with his wife, Rena Margaret Edge, who preceded him in death on June 19, 2026. One of their pleasures was going dancing together, and George affectionately called his wife "MaMa," a small but meaningful expression of their life together.
Like many men of his generation, George experienced a lifetime of changes, challenges, and accomplishments. Behind the years was a young Texas sailor who traveled the seas, a skilled tradesman who worked with his hands, and a husband who enjoyed taking his wife dancing.
His life deserves to be remembered not simply for its final years, but for the many chapters that came before them.
Fair winds and following seas, George. May you rest in peace.
