Emma Jean Fike (Miller), lovingly known as "Meme" or "Emma Jean" by those closest to her, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2025, in Alvin, Texas — the town she called home for most of her life.

Born in San Antonio, Texas, to Travis and Myrtle Miller, Emma Jean grew up surrounded by strong family values that she carried with her throughout her life. She eventually settled in Alvin, where her world was filled with the simple joys of country life — open land, cows grazing in the fields, and countless birds visiting the many birdhouses she proudly kept. Her beloved cat, Val, who had his own photo album dedicated to him, was always close by.

Emma Jean left behind her husband, James Emmitt Fike, the most caring man she knew; preceding in death her daughters Karen (husband Keith) and Janet (husband Matt); and her sibling George. She is survived by her daughter Susan (Husband Byron). Her grandchildren — Dustin, Crystal, Ashley, Holly, Claire, Aubrie, Brodie, Katelynn, Madeline, and Russel — brought her endless joy and pride. She also leaves behind her siblings Alice, Bub, Cleo, and James Roy. Emma Jean's life was also deeply enriched by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, nondirect family, and family friends all of whom held a special place in her heart. She cherished each of them and the family bonds they shared. Her warmth, wisdom, and strength will be remembered fondly by countless other relatives and dear friends who will carry her memory forward.

Emma Jean had a long and dedicated career in banking but was best known for her artistry and creativity. Her hands were always busy — painting beautiful scenes of flowers and barns, crafting ceramic pieces, or sewing quilts, dresses, and clothes for family and friends. If you ever received one of her alterations, you knew it came with both precision and love.

She was clever, warm, and always quick with a smile. She had a wit that could light up a room and a heart big enough to fill one. Once she started talking, you knew you were in for a story — and a good one at that.

Emma Jean lived her faith quietly but faithfully. A devout Lutheran, she was always saying a prayer or checking in to make sure others were safe. Her care for others was deep and constant.
