Elias (Jinks) Barajas, age 75 of Alvin, Texas passed away peacefully Saturday, October 4, 2025, in Webster, Texas. Jinks was born to Donato and Inez Barajas on July 23, 1950, and was a lifelong resident of Alvin.

Jinks was a devout and active member of Open Door Church where he proudly served as the Church Secretary/Treasurer. His commitment to the work in church, never faltered even as his health declined. Even in times of sickness, he remained steadfast in his faith and placed his trust in Jesus.

Jinks graduated from Alvin High School in 1968 where he was known for being a dedicated and accomplished student.  He excelled academically and left a positive impression on both peers and teachers. He was a member of the Math Club, sang in the choir, and learned to play the saxophone. He also occasionally tutored other students. He achieved a significant milestone as the first and only member of his family to attend college, which was a testament to his determination and ambition.  He attended and graduated with a Business Administration degree from Alvin Community College which was called Alvin Jr. College at that time. He then attended University of Houston.

Jinks worked as a dispatcher at Bell Bottom Foundation in Pearland, Texas, for many years where he retired from. He enjoyed this job and worked with family and co-workers who became lifelong friends. They would come into his office every morning to crack jokes with him or tease him about how his favorite sports team had lost a game.

Jinks had a love for sports. He was an avid sports enthusiast with his favorite teams being University of Houston, Astros, and at one time Dallas Cowboys until the Houston Texans came along and he made the switch and converted to be a Texans fan. He was well known in the Alvin men's softball community. He was a great coach and coached relatives and friends who he remained lifelong friends with for many years. He occasionally was removed from the field by the umpires because of his extreme passion and competitiveness. In his younger years, he was also great at playing pool.

Jinks loved to make people laugh. He will be fondly remembered for his sharp wit, quick comebacks, and funny jokes. He held deep love and immense pride for his family which was evident in the way he covered the walls of his family room with graduation pictures of his siblings, nieces, and nephews. He was very proud of their accomplishments, however, was running out of wall space. His love for his family knew no bounds and he would go to any length to show his love and support for them.  He was deeply loved by many (family and friends), and his kindness and warmth made a lasting impact on many lives. Jinks will be profoundly missed.

Jinks is preceded in death by his parents Donato and Inez Barajas, sisters Rachel Barajas and Linda Barajas and brothers Donato Barajas Jr and Marcos Barajas.

Jinks is survived by his sisters Sara Ramirez and husband Frank, Rosa Perez and husband Francisco, Mary Pina and husband Amado and Lou Ann Amador and husband Rudy; brothers Moses Barajas and wife Areceli, David Barajas and wife Gloria, Tim Barajas, Tony Barajas and wife Beatrice, John Barajas; and sisters-in law Sara Barjas and Mildred Barajas; along with numerous nephews and nieces. He will be greatly missed by all including his special cousin Roy Mendoza, best friend Frankie Borjas, and by his pet dog Roscoe.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. with Vigil Service at 7:00 at Open Door Church, 615 W. Sealy. Funeral service will be held Friday, October 10, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Scott's Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Confederate Cemetery. Officiating the services will be Pastor Amado Pina, Jr. and Pastor Frankie Ramirez.

Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Barajas, Gabriel Barajas, Roy Mendoza, Aaron Barajas, Vincent Garcia Jr., and Dylan Munoz.
