Doris Devon Winget, age 96 of Alvin, Texas, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2023. Doris was born August 29, 1926, in Wann, Oklahoma and was a resident of Alvin for 50 years. Doris loved reading, traveling, and family. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald "Jerry" Winget; parents Marguerite and Sylvester "Bud" Davidson; brothers Delmar Davidson and Jerry Davidson.

Doris is survived by her daughter Cheryl Yount and husband John; son Philip Winget and wife Margie; four grandchildren Patrick Winget and wife Lucy, Stephanie Ruediger and husband Michael, Greg Yount and wife Amy, and Amy Lewis and husband Monte; eight great-grandchildren Donovan Lewis, Darren Lewis, Devyn Lewis, Harley Winget, Jack Ruediger, Carsten Ruediger, Jonathan Yount, and Garrett Yount.

Doris was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. However you knew her, she was loving, kind, and gracious.

She married Gerald (Jerry) on November 24, 1945. Dad worked for Phillips Petroleum Co. From Oklahoma they began a lifetime of travel. They lived in Oklahoma, Kansas, and then moved to Texas in 1950. Living in League City, Bay City, Buckeye, Alvin, Kennedy, Rockport, and back to Alvin. All the time she was caring for her growing children. By July 1968 with both children married, Mom and Dad moved to Norway, Cairo (during the 7 Day War), England, Nigeria, and Indonesia. During the 11 years she lived overseas she enjoyed making many friends. She and Jerry traveled to Egypt, Italy, Russia (behind the Iron Curtain), Bali, and many other places.

After 11 years Dad told Mom they were going back to the States. They could live anywhere within 2 hours of a major airport. Mom said, "I'm moving to Alvin, you live anywhere you like." No surprise they lived in Alvin. Back in Alvin they joined the Shiftless Sams RV Club, traveling across the United States. Many times, taking the grandkids. They became fully immersed in the lives of their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Doris loved being with them, caring for them and demonstrating her love for them. We will always love and miss Mom.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at Scott Funeral Home. Following the visitation there will be a funeral procession from Scott Funeral Home to Oak Park Cemetery for a graveside.
