David Wayne Gates passed away peacefully on January 28, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on December 27, 1939, in Wharton, Texas, David was a devoted husband, father, and friend. After just two dates, he knew he had found the love of his life and spent 56 wonderful years married to Sandra. His kindness, wisdom, sense of humor, and unwavering work ethic left a lasting impact on all who knew him. He never missed an opportunity to gather with family and friends especially over a meal-always finding the best shortcuts to get there.

In 1978, David founded Gates Machine Tool Repair, Inc., building a company rooted in integrity, craftsmanship, and a dedication to excellence. His leadership and passion shaped the lives of many, and his legacy will live on through the work he loved and the people he inspired.

David was preceded in death by his parents, David and Esther Gates; his beloved wife, Sandra Gates; and his sons, Cliff Gates and Stephen Gates. He is survived by his sister, Sylvia Worrell; his sons, Cris Gates (and his dear lady, Debbie) and Ronnie Gates; as well as other cherished family members, friends, and colleagues.

Visitation will be held at Scott Funeral Home in Alvin, Texas, on Sunday, February 2, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, with a Celebration of Life service immediately following from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM. A graveside service will take place at Jones Cemetery in Utopia, Texas, on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.

David's warmth, generosity, and steadfast spirit will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
