Cynthia Sue Justus, age 66 of Alvin, Texas, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at HCA Clear Lake Hospital. Cynthia was born October 24, 1957 in Corpus Christi, Texas and was a resident of Alvin for the last 7 1/2 years formerly of Georgia. She is preceded in death by her husband, Timothy Justus; parents, Johnnie and Gladys Goodman.

Cynthia is survived by her daughters, Kellye Roper and husband Jeremy, Victoria Hooper; sister, Regina Davis and husband Richard; grandchildren, Bentley Hooper, Amberlee Hooper, Jeremiah Roper and Everett Roper; Robert Hooper, who she loved as a son; along with numerous extended family and friends.

Cynthia, or Cindy as she was known to all who loved her, loved people.  She had a gift for connecting with others, adults and children alike.  She loved animals, too.  From the time she was a child, she always had at least one dog.  She started riding horses from a very young age and continued to ride through most of her adult life.

Cindy loved to travel.  Growing up, she lived in Corpus Christi, Texas, Tripoli, Libya, Ventura, California and Great Yarmouth, England.  She had opportunities to travel to Malta, France, Russia, and Mexico.  She celebrated her 66th birthday by taking a cruise with her grandson to Cozumel.

Cindy graduated high school from San Marcos Baptist Academy.  She attended Del Mar Junior College in Corpus Christi and then Alvin Junior College.  Most of her career was spent in medical insurance billing for doctor's offices.  Her last position, however, was a complete change.  She went to work for the Dillard House in Georgia managing events, including weddings, conferences and family reunions.  She enjoyed working with people and was very gifted at decorating, so this was a great fit for her.

Cindy and Tim met while she was attending Alvin Junior College.  They moved frequently, living in several towns in southeast Texas, near her family and in Georgia near Tim's family.  Family was very important to Cindy.

Cindy's life was a testimony to the redemptive power of Jesus.  Most of her adult life, she struggled with alcohol and drug addiction.  When her husband passed away in 2016, she realized that she needed to change her lifestyle.  She returned to her faith in Jesus, checked herself into a rehab facility and began her path to recovery.  Through Bible study, prayer and a deep commitment to follow Jesus, Cindy was able to turn her life around.  The tools and skills she learned in rehab and through Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) were instrumental in her recovery.  She moved back to Alvin, Texas, to start her new life, immediately becoming active in AA, where over the following years she served in many capacities working on committees and holding offices.  She joined Arcadia First Baptist Church, where she actively participated in Bible studies, taught Vacation Bible School and helped with mission projects.  Cindy often shared her testimony with others, helping them to see that it is never too late for Jesus to change your life.  The last years of her life were filled with love, joy, friendship, and peace.  Truly, hers was a life well-lived.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM Friday, February 23, 2024 at Scott Funeral Home with funeral services beginning at 11:00 AM. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Victoria, Texas.
