Collette Irene Schmidt (nee Hilgendorf) of League City, TX, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at the age of 88.  Beloved wife of the late Col. Edwin V. Schmidt; cherished daughter of the late Frederick Hilgendorf and Gabrielle Snow.  Devoted mother of Mark (Becky) Schmidt, and Denise (Steven) Massey; loving grandmother of Garrett (Priscilla) Schmidt, Blake (Jennifer) Schmidt, Hunter (Erin) Schmidt, Morgan (Blake) Nelson, Blair (Andrew) Ward, and Steven Patrick (Laurel) Massey; treasured great-grandmother of Townes, Hayes, Luke, Dalton, Owen, Skylar, Taylor, Brooklyn, Payton, Yale, Coleman, Payne, Cal, Sawyer, Lindel, and Cambry; many extended family and friends.

Collette was born on January 12, 1937, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After graduating from Catholic High School, she moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, where she was proudly crowned Miss Alaska.  Over the years, Collette built a fulfilling career as a residential real estate broker and also worked for the U.S. Postal Service.  She enjoyed volunteering with Meals on Wheels and had a true passion for cooking and baking, sharing the most amazing meals and treats with her family.   Collette shared many loving years with Ken Melton, traveling, playing golf, and embracing life to its fullest together.  Collette was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 PM Monday, June 9, 2025 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas (1520 Harry Wurzbach Road San Antonio, Texas 78209).
