"O Lord my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me" -Psalm 30:2. On Sunday, September 10, 2023, Carol Deshazo Smaistrla, age 83, was healed completely and transitioned to her heavenly home while in care at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas. Carol was born on June 19, 1940 to Hoy and Betty Deshazo in Eagle Lake. On June 6, 1959, she married Bernard Raymond Smaistrla. Married for 48 years until his passing, Carol and Bernard made Manvel, Texas their home where they raised their sons and eventually the family business, Ben's Pest Control. Following retirement from John L. Wortham, Carol helped with the business for several years as the office manager.

Carol was a woman of strong Catholic faith and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. As one who enjoyed more simple pleasures, Carol loved sleeping late, Blue Bell ice-cream, watching game shows and mystery movies, BINGO, and playing slots. Her greatest treasure was her family, and her face lit up with the biggest smile when sharing stories, memories, or the latest news about them. She will be dearly missed.

Carol is preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Smaistrla; son, Jeff Smaistrla; parents, Hoy and Betty Deshazo; and, brother, John Deshazo. She is survived by her son, Blake Smaistrla and daughter-in-law Michelle; sisters, Nellie Frnka and Betty Grochoske; brother, James Deshazo and sister-in-law Vela; grandchildren, Jennifer Watters and husband Nathan, Joshua Smaistrla, Grayson Smaistrla, Carter Smaistrla, Matthew Loubiere and Christopher Loubiere; great-grandchildren, Mason Bailey and Adeline Bailey; daughter-in-law, Kim Smaistrla; along with numerous extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM Friday, September 15, 2023 at Scott Funeral Home with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Scott Funeral Home with Father Ben Smaistrla officiating. Interment will follow at Confederate Cemetery in Alvin, Texas.
