Byrd (B.J.) Powell, Jr, 82 passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at his home in Port Mansfield, TX with his loving wife, Sharron by his side. He was born on April 18, 1941 in Bradley, Arkansas to Byrd and Ethyl Powell. He was raised on a farm and enjoyed farming throughout his life wherever he lived. He passed his love of growing vegetables to his children and grandchildren. He loved fishing, hunting and spending time with family. B.J. never met a stranger and he made friends wherever he lived.

After growing up in Bradley, Arkansas, he lived in Alvin, TX until shortly after he retired from Monsanto in 1997 when he built a retirement home in his favorite place on earth, Port Mansfield, TX. He loved to be busy and never sat still and he continued to work after retirement doing things he loved. B.J. was a man's man with unmatched energy and drive. He knew how to make everyone feel special. He was a beloved son and brother, a devoted and loving husband, a wonderful Dad, a proud Grandfather and Great-Grandfather and a faithful friend. He loved to hunt with friends and family, he was an avid fisherman and was at home on the water. He found joy and happiness in his daily busy life and working alongside his best friend, Sharron. They shared a love that is rare and one that lasts a lifetime.

B.J. is survived by Sharron Powell, the love of his life and wife of 57 years who rarely left his side, his son Mike Powell (Elaine), his daughter Misti Jezek (Daniel); his grandchildren April, Branden (Angela), Dusty (Jaci), Megan (Jimmy), Amber, Kaytlynn (Robert); Courtney (Mark); great-grandchildren Riley, Tanzalie, Zeppelin, Bennett, Gunner, Weston, Magnolia and Luke; along with many other friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his son Richard "Ricky" Powell, his brother Charles "Charlie" Powell and his parents Byrd and Ethyl Powell.

B.J.'s family is thankful for the many years they had with him, the precious memories, his cheerful laugh, and the positive impact he had on all who knew him. He was well loved and will be dearly missed. Forever and always and until we meet again one sweet day, his memory will be in our hearts. Go rest high on that mountain, B.J.!

A visitation will be held Tuesday, November 21, 2023 from 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM with Funeral Services beginning at 3:00 PM at Scott Funeral Home in Alvin, Texas.
