Brenda Darlene Sliter, 76, of Alvin, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, July 6, 2026, surrounded by her family.

Born on January 26, 1950, in Houston, Texas, Brenda made Alvin her home in 1977. She spent many years working as a printing press operator for the University of Houston and was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Lehi Lane.

While those are the facts of her life, they only tell a small part of her story.

To her family, Brenda was simply, Mom. Not only to her own children, but to anyone who needed one. Her home was a place where people knew they were welcome, where there was always room at the table, someone to listen, and someone who genuinely cared. She never hesitated to put others before herself, offering quiet encouragement, practical advice, or simply a hug when it was needed most.

Her children remember the little things that became the biggest memories. Family vacations, softball games, lunches made before work, cooking together in the kitchen, staying up late talking, her amazing laugh, her strength during difficult times, the comfort of knowing that no matter what happened, Mom would always be there.

She taught by example more than words. She believed in paying your bills, keeping your room clean or organized, working hard, showing kindness, and taking care of the people around you. Her compassion and generosity shaped not only her children, but her grandchildren and everyone fortunate enough to know her. More than one of her children wrote that they strive every day to become the kind of person she was.

Brenda also had a lifelong love for baseball, especially her Houston Astros. She rarely missed following her favorite team and faithfully kept handwritten scorebooks and statistics for seasons spanning from 1997 through 2010. Watching the Astros wasn't just a pastime. It was one of the simple joys that brought her happiness.

She was preceded in death by her son, Tennie Sliter Jr.; her grandchildren, Alexander Zacharias and Kaylin Smith; her parents, Arvid and Louise Smith; and her brother, Alvin Smith.

She leaves behind her devoted husband of 51 years, Tennie Sliter Sr.; daughters Miranda Sliter (Angel), Kimberly Zacharias, Brandy Sliter (Phil Patterson), and Megan Michaels (Brent); sons Andrew Sliter (Angel), John Zacharias (Melony), and Lawrence Sliter (Rebecca); sister Barbara Ross (Roy); brother Arvid Smith; grandchildren Ashley Zacharias, Caitlyn Zacharias, Kristian Sliter, Taylor Kreg, Alyssa Sliter, Mason Sliter, Gavin Hanson, Brenna Michaels, Jonathan Michaels, Landon Michaels, Walter Durham, and Royale Durham; great grandchildren Malia Galindo and Trey Galindo; along with many extended family members, dear friends, and countless people who lovingly considered her a second mom.

Brenda's greatest legacy will never be measured by the years she lived, but by the people she loved. Her kindness, patience, selflessness, and unwavering love continue to live on in every life she touched.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Scott Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 p.m., followed by interment at Confederate Cemetery in Alvin, Texas.
