Betty (Collom) Barnett, of Alvin, Texas passed away on July 14, 2023, after 88 years on this good earth and 61 years of marriage to her loving husband, Elmore. She was born in Texarkana, Texas and was a resident of Alvin for 82 years.

Betty attended Alvin High School, where she enjoyed being a cheerleader and met her future husband. Following graduation, she worked briefly for Schlumberger in Houston, Texas.

Betty and Elmore were married in 1953, and shortly after Elmore was drafted into the United States Army. During his service, the young couple lived for a few years in Virginia near Fort Monroe. They returned to Alvin following military service where they raised a family of three sons – Douglas, Darrell, and Gary – and became lifelong members of the community. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker who saw to their sons' education, ensured regular Sunday School attendance at the First Baptist Church in Alvin, helped as a Cub Scout Den Mother for the boys, and attended many school events with them. Together with Elmore they built and maintained a warm loving home life for the whole family.

When the boys got older, Betty worked for a number of years as a secretary for the family construction company – Barnett and Sons, Inc. Living in Alvin enabled Betty and Elmore to enjoy long time friendships with their school classmates, friends in local businesses, and neighbors. She helped organize a joint annual reunion of her high school class (1954) with Elmore's (1953) and they enjoyed attending that for many years. After the boys were grown and on their own, Betty was a devoted grandmother and caring Mother-in-law at family gatherings, visits, shopping trips, and phone calls. At home, she enjoyed spending time in her sunroom watching the many birds and other animals in their backyard. Betty greatly enjoyed the trips she took with Elmore for family reunions, camping in Medina, and collecting sea shells and sand dollars at Padre Beach in Corpus Christi, Texas. She and Elmore also became active members of the Missionary Baptist Church of Alvin for a number of years where they made many friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ruby Collom, brother Robert, Jr., and her husband, Elmore. She is survived by her three sons – Gary and wife Carol, Darrell and wife, Marly, Douglas and wife, Jennifer – as well as grandchildren Amanda, Ben, Shawn, Evan and Alec, great grandsons Aiden and Percy, great granddaughter Kealy – and brother Jimmy Dan Collom and sister Bobby Lou Collom Blumer.

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the building fund at Alvin Missionary Baptist Church at 2102 West Lang Street Alvin, Texas 77511 or to the Alzheimer's Association.
