Benny Ray Hooper, age 86 of Alvin, Texas passed away on Monday, December 26, 2022. Benny was born on February 4, 1936 in Paxton, Texas.  He was Christian by faith.  He graduated from Lutcher Stark High School in Orange, Texas.

He proudly served in the Reserve of the United States Marine Corps.

Benny married the love of his life Barbara, on March 1, 1956 in Orange, Texas.

They moved to Jackson, Mississippi where he managed Sander's Wholesale Florist & started their family with their daughter Rose & son Alan.

In July of 1965, they moved to Alvin, Texas where Benny & his brothers James Hooper & Marvin Hooper, opened JMB Tire & Appliance Company in Alvin, Texas in August of 1965, their first of 5 successful retail stores.  The additional opening of the JMB Warehouse Tire Distribution Center, served in delivering all over the Southeast Texas area & beyond. Benny loved & enjoyed playing his steel guitar in his early years, he enjoyed boating & his family more than anything.

He also enjoyed watching his children & grandchildren with their sports teams, music recitals & more.

Benny is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Hooper, son Alan Hooper, his parents, Eddie & Ilah Hooper, sisters Ruby Sanders & Allene Hooper, brother Marvin Hooper & other loved ones.

Benny is survived by his daughter, Rose Reed & husband Randy; sister Deanna Baumgardner & brother James Hooper. Grandchildren Lindsey Reed, Jared Reed & wife Brittany, Lauren Reed, Sydnie Hart, Christa Solle & husband Damon,

Scott Reed & wife Sarah.  Great grandchildren Christian Solle, Jonathan Solle, & Makaia Hart Frederick.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2022 from 10:00am-11:00am at Scott Funeral Home, 1421 E. Hwy 6 in Alvin, Texas  77511 with the Service starting at 11:00am.  Interment will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at 3:00pm at Hayes Grace Memorial Park, 10708 Hwy 6 in Hitchcock, Texas 77563.
