Barbara Jean Hayes, age 75 of Hempstead, Texas passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at her home in Hempstead. Barbara was born October 11, 1946 in Houston, Texas and was a resident of Hempstead for the last 12 years, formerly of Alvin, Texas. She worked over 40 years as an accountant but spent the last 20 years creating a Godly centered business and environment at Cravens Electric with her son Justin. Barbara is preceded in death by her son, Gary Penuel; parents, Jack and Selma Dotson.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 16 years, Larry Hayes; daughter, Tracy Bradley; son, Justin Cravens, and daughter, Kayla Hayes; sister, Kathy Scambray and husband Vince; brother, Robert Dotson and wife Paula; 10 grandchildren; Krystal Smith and husband Ryan, Kayla Phillips and husband Thomas, Kaia Kolata and husband Ian, Braquel Fraser and husband George, Jacob Cravens, Jadon Cravens, Summer Cravens, Autumn Cravens, Gage Cravens and Dillion DeClue; 9 great grandchildren Melanie, Morgan, Jenna, Amelia, Bella, Kai, Theodore, George, and Charlotte along with numerous other relatives and friends.

Barbara was a devoted Christian, spreading Christ's love and forgiveness everywhere she went.  She was happiest having her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren gather at her beautiful home on the lake. Her ears and heart were always open to anyone in need. She was a spiritual leader, mentor, and a true example of unconditional love, and though she has gone to be with the Lord her legacy will live on through her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

The last 16 years were a wonderful time in her life because she got to share them with her beloved husband, Larry. She was a devoted wife who loved nothing more than taking the best care of her husband. Every morning they would enjoy coffee together, and in the evenings they would watch the sunset reflect across the lake, appreciating all the gifts and blessings God has given them. And when we look up in the sky we can rest assured that she is looking right back at us with a smile on her face. Her final wish was for peace over her household and entire family

Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM Monday, February 7, 2022 at Scott Funeral Home with funeral services beginning at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow at Confederate Cemetery in Alvin.
