Ameal Herman Mentzel, age 82 of Alvin, Texas, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 2, 2024 at Methodist Hospital of Clear Lake in Nassau Bay, Texas.  Ameal was born July 27, 1941 on the Galveston Causeway and was a longtime resident of Alvin.

Ameal enjoyed tending to his garden, camping, fishing, hunting, golfing and spending time with his sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ameal was well known for being an active community member in The Rotary Club, Alvin-Manvel Chamber of Commerce, Alvin Yellowjacket Booster Club, as well as coaching little league baseball. Ameal is mostly known for being part owner of Bowman's Department Store and owner of Red Wing Boots in Pearland.

He is preceded in death by his father, Ameal Mentzel; mother, Billie Mentzel; sisters, Linda Kelley, Barbara DeVries and Carol Maxwell; father-in-law Calvin Bowman; mother-in-law Ruth Bowman; and sister in law June Temple.

Ameal is survived by his wife, Carolyn Mentzel; sons Kevin Mentzel and wife Ginger, Kyle Mentzel and wife Tammy; sister Shirley Pike and husband Richard Pike; brother Wayne Mentzel; brother in laws Henry DeVries and Charles Wayne Maxwell; grandchildren Shauna Burgess and husband Dewayne, Torie Parnell and husband Niles, Garrett Peltier and wife Victoria, Gavin Peltier and wife Abigail, Leighton Mentzel & Tia, Kyler Mentzel and fiance' Bria Peltier; great grandchildren Easton Burgess, Hali Peltier, Klein Peltier, Emery Burgess, Barrett Parnell & Elias Mentzel; along with numerous extended family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Jamie Bradshaw, Ricky Bradshaw, Bubby DeVries, Cody Hitchcock, Michael Maxwell, Darren Maxwell, and Pat Mentzel.

A visitation will be held Thursday, June 6, 2024 from 2:00 PM -3:00 PM with funeral services beginning at 3:00 PM at Scott Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Alta Loma Cemetery.
